Episode 120, part 1:
Guests: Park Shin Hye (actress), Lee Seung Gi (actor, singer, TV host).
Location: Gangnam, Seoul; Gyeonggi province (greater Seoul area).
Opening member gathering mission (Gangnam district): Members and guests are scattered in locations around Gangnam. Jae Suk starts the mission by going to one location and his mission is to find the Running Man member and stick a "R" sticker on that person within a given time. That member must complete a mission in the same given time. If Jae Suk succeeds first, he gets one point. If the member succeeds first, that person gets two points. Regardless of the outcome, that member becomes part of the member gathering mission and they head to the next location where similar designs are ostensibly employed to accumulate the members (most are completely edited out so it's impossible to confirm that this was actually the mission design. Most were edited out, perhaps to give so much gratuitous screen time to Lee Seung Gi (although it sure didn't hurt ratings)). The points winning is merely to determine the order in which teams head to the next location.
Teams: Jae Suk-Gwang Soo-Lee Seung Gi; Jong Kook-Haha-Park Shin Hye; Ji Hyo-Gary-Suk Jin.
Sniper test (Bundang-gu car wash*): Teams must get into a stationary car and shoot four targets from the windows with water guns within 40 seconds while withstanding water barrages that come at intervals.
Ejector seat tongue twister concentration test (Family Sports Center*, Bundang-gu): Each team must all consecutively recite a tongue twister within 15 seconds to avoid being ejected into the swimming pool.
Teamwork test (Mango Six Coffee and Desserts): Each team randomly chooses between three objects (tennis racket frame, fishing net frame, clothes hanger) through which all members must pass their bodies within 15 seconds to pass.
Water gun elimination (Poeun Art Hall*, Yongin): Search for the 10 loaded water guns among hundreds of water guns and eliminate other teams by spraying their nametags.
Comments: The Shin Bundang subway line was used before in ep. 70 (Lee Min Ki, Park Chul Min, Son Ye Jin) when it had just opened.
- The strange "water gun" weapon Lee Seunggi finds was used before in the water gun fight in ep. 67 (Kim Soo Ro, Park Ye Jin).
- I'm guessing the Running Man members have probably gotten really good at spotting possible camera crew members tracking suspicious people, even when they're hiding videocams up their sleeves.
- The stuffed tiger with the Korean flag on it is a direct reference to the latest James Bond film, "Skyfall". The swimming pool catapult may be an idea possibly referencing the ejector seat from old James Bond cars, referenced in "Skyfall". The tests the Running Men are put through to get their "license to oust" are also possibly a reference to "Skyfall", in which 007 has to pass various tests to be reactivated as a field agent (that's not a spoiler).
- The Korean version of the Broadway musical "Les Miserables" ran from Nov. 3-25 at the Poeun Art Hall. The show did not perform on Mondays, allowing Running Man to shoot there.
- Mango Six Coffee & Desserts was featured in the drama "A Gentleman's Dignity", but it is a franchise chain, and the location shown in this episode is likely a newer store in Gyeonggi province and not the one shown in that drama.
- Not really relevant to RM, but part of the Gangnam mission was shot on the same street where rookie K-pop girl group Crayon Pop filmed recent guerilla performances (the Mubanna Chondak fried chicken restaurant just barely makes it on screen in the episode, and is a place I want to go to if I ever make it to Korea for a visit). I only mention this as a personal endorsement for the group as two members of Super Junior have also given them props.
